Thousands of VPS students started school ready to learn thanks to donors to the 2023 Write from the Start School Supply Drive! Donors gave over $11,000 to purchase new supplies and dozens of local business held collections. Thank you to presenting sponsor Dick Hannah Dealerships for donating $10,000 to double the amount of supplies for VPS students in need across all schools and to our media sponsor KOIN 6!
About the Write from the Start School Supply Drive:
Approximately 55% of VPS students qualify for subsidized meals, a Federal indicator of poverty, with some schools as high as 96%. For many families, the added burden of purchasing school supplies could translate into falling behind on rent and utilities or reducing an already minimal food budget. Donations through the Write from the Start School Supply Drive, help the approximately 11,000 under-resourced Vancouver Public School students within all 40 VPS schools & programs start the school year with the supplies they need to be successful.
Donations to the Write from the Start Campaign have ended, but donations to our general fund are needed throughout the year to support basic needs, enrichment, and other engagement programs across all schools in Vancouver Public Schools. You may also designate your gift toward basic needs only.
